The main producers for chipboards or particleboards in South-East Asia countries are located in Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.

Chipboards or otherwise describe as Particleboards are the secondary products of timber, such product is produced from the mixture of woodchips and glue, mainly targeted for buyers who are in the furniture industry.

There are two basic type of chipboards or particleboards, i.e. plain boards and paper or melamine boards.  The process of melamine type is to laminated with decorative papers, impregnated with melamine resins on both sides under controlled intense heat and pressure - according to the DIN 53799 standard or better.  The raw materials are either using mixed tropical wood, rubberwood or Acacia species.  Most factories in Indonesia and Malaysia are now producing Standard Urea Formaldehyde (UF) boards and few of them even doing moisture/water resistant boards for their domestic and overseas customers.

General thickness of the panels are : 9mm, 12mm, 16mm, 18mm, 20mm, 25mm, 30mm and 36mm.

The normal panel size would be 1220mm x 2440mm (4' x 8') and 1830mm x 2440mm (6' x 8').

Home and office furniture manufactured by chipboards or particleboards are relatively cheaper than items made of MDF (Medium Density Fiberboards) or HDF (High Density Fiberboards), therefore the demand for such product is still on the rise.  Companies in China have set up factories to produce chipboards or particleboards during recent years is a very good example.
